Bartnik receives NSCAA, ECAC Northeast honors

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Jake Bartnik of East Longmeadow, Mass., a senior forward on the Western New England University (WNE) men’s soccer team, was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-New England South Region second team and a 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Division III Men’s Soccer All-Star.

Bartnik was selected to the All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) first team after leading the Golden Bears with career highs of 12 goals, 24 points, eight game-winning tallies and 55 shots.

The criminal justice major ranked second in the conference in game-winners, third in goals and fourth in total points. He was the ECAC New England Division III Corvias Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 3) and twice named the CCC Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 30, Nov. 11). He ends his career as the Golden Bears’ 13th all-time leading scorer with 62 points, including 27 goals for a seventh-place tie.

WNE won the conference title and made an appearance in the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship, advancing to the second round, finishing the year ranked No. 25 in the final NSCAA poll.

Ferrentino leads AIC to easy win over Southern Connecticut

SPRINGFIELD – American International College (AIC) women’s basketball forward Krista Ferrentino of East Longmeadow scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed four boards as the Yellow Jackets ran away from Pace 59-36 on Dec. 10.

Ferrentino also netted 10 points and pulled down five rebounds in AIC’s 76-72 loss to St. Rose on Dec. 14.

Schreibstein honored with Coaches’ Award

WINDSOR, Conn. – Kayla Schreibstein of Longmeadow, Mass., was recently named Coaches’ Award winner for the Loomis Chaffee School girls volleyball team. The Pelicans finished the year with a 17-3 record and had won 10-straight matches before falling in the New England Class A Tournament final 3-1 to Choate on Nov. 17.
