WOBURN – The Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation announced that Ross Miner will be the featured skater of the 2013 Bay State Skate Show. Miner is a two-time U.S. Men's bronze medalist and will compete in the 2013 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. The Bay State Skate Show will take place on Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Williams College in Williamstown.
Miner, a Vermont native, started skating at the age of three with hockey skates but was intrigued by the figure skaters who took to the ice after his hockey practices.
Seeing that Miner was interested in figure skating, his mom purchased him a pair of figure skates and the rest is history. At the age of nine he qualified for the U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships. Four years later in 2003 his parents realized that Miner needed better training and moved the family to the Boston area to work with world renowned coaches, Mark Mitchell and Peter Johansson of the Boston Figure Skating Club. Under their tutelage Miner has gone onto great national and international success.
Currently Miner is considered one of the top male figure skaters in the United States. After finishing third in both 2011 and 2012, Miner is looking to hopefully take home the gold at this year U.S. Figure Skating Championships taking place this week in Omaha, NE.
Miner recently competed in both the Men's Short Program and Free Skate which was seen IceNetwork.com and NBC respectively.
The Bay State Skate Show also features national, state and regional skating stars, as well as medal winners from the 2013 Winter Games.
Tickets are now available at the Bay State Games website – www.baystategames.org – and will also be sold at the Williams College Ice Rink on Feb. 15 and all day before the show on Feb. 16.
Scheduled for Feb. 15 to 17, the 28th annual Bay State Winter Games feature figure skating, ice hockey and alpine skiing, which will be held at Williams College, the North Adams Vietnam Veterans Rink and Bousquet Ski Area, respectively.
