Registration for Bay State Summer Games now open

WOBURN – The Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation recently announced that registration for the 2013 Bay State Summer Games is now open. The annual Olympic-style amateur sports festival features 26 sports for athletes of all ages and abilities.

The Bay State Games involves participants from more than 300 communities in Massachusetts and over 7,000 participants annually. The Games are now in its 32nd year and over the past three decades more than a quarter of a million participants have competed. Bay State Games offers the opportunity for athletes to showcase their talents whether they are beginners or future Olympians.

The 2013 Bay State Summer Games is scheduled for July 5 to 21 with regional qualifiers and tryouts held through the month of June. The competitions take place in top-level sporting facilities such as Bentley University, Harvard University, Regis College, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Worcester State, University of Massachusetts Boston and the New England Sports Center.

Competitions are offered in archery, badminton, baseball, basketball, juniors basketball, baton twirling, diving, fencing, field hockey, 6v6 field hockey, ice hockey, judo, lacrosse, pistol shooting, rifle shooting, rugby, soccer, 7v7 soccer, softball, swimming, synchronized swimming, table tennis, track and field, trap shooting, volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling.

Masters divisions are also available in swimming and track and field.

The Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation also offers the opportunity for student athletes to receive a college scholarship. The Future Leaders Scholarship awards six $2,000 college scholarships to Bay State Games participants who demonstrate leadership through community service, academic excellence and athletic achievement. High school students, who are Massachusetts residents in the 11th grade during the 2012-13 academic year, register and agree to participate in the 2013 Bay State Games, which they qualify for, are eligible for the Future Leaders Scholarship. The registration deadline for the scholarship is June 12.
