Two WMA field hockey players compete in All-Star game

Dec. 10, 2012
WILBRAHAM – Wilbraham & Monson Academy's Allie Cerpovicz '13 and Sydney Liptak '16 were selected to play in the Western New England Prep School Field Hockey All-Star Game Nov. 4 at Suffield Academy.

"All-star games are difficult to watch because there are always players who want to show off their best individual skills," WMA coach Liz Fontaine said. "However, in field hockey you need more than one all-star to get anything accomplished. During the all-star game, Syd and Allie worked well with the other players, just the same way they learned to work well with their teammates at Wilbraham & Monson Academy."

Cerpovicz earned the MVP Award for the WMA field hockey team in 2012. She has been recruited to play in college, including at the Division I level.

"Allie came to WMA last year as a junior from West Springfield," Fontaine said. "She made an immediate impact on the program, earning the role as our center midfielder. Over the summer of 2012 she worked diligently with underclassmen to improve their skills.

"Allie has had some tough choices to make in regards to her college process. She has the ability to play at all three levels but she's choosing to play Division III athletics and concentrate on her academics as well. I believe Allie will thrive in the Division III environment. Her love of field hockey coupled with her diligence in the classroom is well suited for a strong DIII field hockey program," she added.

Liptak led the team in scoring and enjoyed a terrific season.

"Syd's first year on the team has been a powerful one," Coach Fontaine said. "She earned the position of center forward and started and played almost every minute in all of our contests. As a coach I am thankful to have her on our squad for three more years. Since she's a freshman, Syd has plenty of time to grow and I look forward to watching her develop her skills and her leadership capabilities."
