Wilbraham Children's Museum invites new members to join in the fun

WILBRAHAM The Wilbraham Children's Museum is kicking off what promises to be a fun-filled year and encourages all families to join its membership and take advantage of a wide range of activities designed for young kids.

The museum offers weekly playgroups, birthday parties, public hours and special kid-friendly events throughout the year all of which take place in a museum outfitted with unique and educational exhibits and toys as well as an adjacent playground and picnic area. The museum will also offer occasional social events, such as dinners and book clubs, for parents.

The museum's exhibits have been refreshed with a few updates this summer, including the addition of a new working post office and doctor's office. It also continues to offer its perennial favorites, such as the antique phone operator's station, two-story medieval castle, puppet theater and space shuttle.

Playgroups are forming this week and will welcome additional families throughout the year. New members can learn more and register through the museum's Web site at www.wilbrahamchildrensmuseum.org.

The museum has been a valuable resource to young families from Wilbraham and the surrounding towns since its inception in 1982. It has provided a venue for children to explore and socialize, and for parents and caretakers to establish bonds with others who share the same experiences. It is operated entirely by the volunteer efforts of its members, who organize events, raise funds and guide the museum's planning process.

The museum is located within the red school house at 678 Main St. in Wilbraham. Registration fees are $25 for an annual museum membership ($30 for non-residents) and $25 for each 10-week playgroup session. Public hours are $3 per visit. The adjoining playground is open to the public free of charge.
