Wilbraham-Hampden Falcons perfect

June 11, 2012

WILBRAHAM — The defending U12A Division Champion Wilbraham-Hampden Falcons softball team has picked up right where they left off last season, running up an undefeated mark of 6-0 midway through the 2012 season.

Competing in the NEYSA league, which encompasses youth fastpitch teams from the greater Springfield area, the team has looked sharp, despite significant roster turnover from the 2011 squad that compiled a 10-1-1 record and fell short of the league championship by one win. Blending in seven new players, including two new pitchers, while returning six from last summer, the Falcons have displayed solid pitching, defense and run-scoring ability.

In a season to date that was plagued by multiple rainouts, the Falcons have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 81-8, with two shutouts in the six games.

New pitchers Jessica Anderson and Rachel Crafts have both shown good control and a stinginess for allowing base runners, while racking up the strikeouts. Contributions on offense and defense have come from all over the lineup, including both hurlers.

Hard work at practices and in the batting cage has paid dividends for the team that also includes Kayla Anderson, Callie Cyr, Emma Hicklen, Maia Hutcheson-Jones, Giavana LaChapelle, Jenna Murray, Graycn Rothschild-Shea, Taylor Sanborn, Mikayla Stolar, Grace Trudeau and Melanie Ward.

The team is coached by Paul Stolar, Kurt Anderson, Glenn LaChapelle, Steve Crafts and Dan Murray with key assistance by Andrea Stolar.
