AIC rides exciting win into AHA tournament

March 6, 2013
WATERTOWN – The American International College (AIC) men's ice hockey team improved to 12-15-6 and 9-12-6 in the Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) earned a shocking 4-3 overtime win with their conference foe, the Bentley Falcons (12-16-3, 10-14-3) in the regular season finale, making the Yellow Jackets the ninth seed in the upcoming Atlantic Hockey Tournament.

Trailing 3-1, the Yellow Jackets scored twice in the game's final 11 minutes to force overtime.

In overtime, a series of unorthodox situations led to an AIC victory. The Jackets pulled senior goalkeeper Ben Meisner with roughly 0:30 left to get the sixth attacker, but senior defenseman Jeff Ceccacci took a holding penalty. Bentley then pulled its goalie with the offensive zone draw in their favor. The centers tied up off the draw, and sophomore defenseman Jake Williams and senior right wing Adam Pleskach found junior center Blake Peake, who threw the puck length of the rink into the open net with just 1.3 left on the clock for his eighth of the year to complete the stunning comeback win.

Meisner, who moved into 16th on the NCAA Division I all-time saves list in AIC's 2-1 win the night before, stopped 34 of 37 shots to move to 11-14-5 on the year.

AIC will head to Rochester Institute of Technology as the ninth seed in the first round of the Atlantic Hockey tournament.
