SPRINGFIELD -- The Springfield Armor received the fifth pick in the 2010 NBA Development League draft through a lottery conducted at the annual coaches meetings. The draft will take place via teleconference Nov. 1, at the league's headquarters in New York.
In their first draft as a franchise last season, the Armor had the fourteenth pick in the 2009 draft and selected JamesOn Curry from the University of Oklahoma. Curry was the Springfield Armor's historical first Gatorade Call-Up and signed a 10-day contract with the L.A. Clippers and received playing time when the Clippers took on the Celtics in the TD Garden in Boston on Jan. 5.
"We are excited about the early pick in this year's draft," Head Coach and Director of Basketball, Dee Brown, said. "We are anticipating a great season with a tremendous amount of talent. Having the fifth pick allows us the opportunity to add a impact player to our roster."
The eight round draft utilizes a "serpentine" format, meaning the order alternates in each round. Springfield will, therefore, pick fifth in the first round and 12th in the second round.
Armor season tickets, flex tickets and group tickets are currently on sale. For more information call 746-3263 or visit www.armorhoops.com.
