GREATER SPRINGFIELD – Chelsea Botta of East Longmeadow, a member of the Marist College women's soccer team was the 10th-ranked athlete on TopDrawerSoccer's Top 20 list of Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference players on Sept. 11.

Early goal lifts EL over Ludlow

EAST LONGMEADOW – Danielle White scored the game-winning goal on a feed from Alyssa Hyland just 32 seconds into the contest as the East Longmeadow girls soccer team topped Ludlow 1-0 on Sept. 10.

AIC golf wins Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational

KEENE, N.H. – The American International College men's golf team had a first-place team finish at the Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational on Sept. 10 as Yellow Jacket senior Nate Pereira of Ludlow tied for fifth with a four-over 148 (71-77), and junior Tommy LeBlanc of Springfield finished 24th with a 14-over 158 (77-81).

Morin leads Bay Path to win

NORTH ADAMS – Stephanie Morin of Springfield earned wins in the No. 2 singles match 6-4, 6-2, then teamed up with Symone Watson to win in first doubles action as the Bay Path College tennis team topped the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts 7-0 on Sept. 9.

Mecham records helped in win

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Kyle Mecham of Wilbraham assisted a first-half goal to help Lyndon State College of Lyndonville, Vt., to a 4-1 victory over Elms College in a men's soccer game on Sept. 8.

Botta helps Marist break winless streak against Hofstra

A leaping Chelsea Botta of East Longmeadow powered the ball into the back of the net on a high corner kick for the Marist College women's soccer team's fourth goal of the game in a 4-2 win over Hoftra on Sept. 9.

Marist came into the game with an all-time mark of 0-6-1 versus Hofstra.

Miller garners MASCAC Player of the Week honors

BUZZARDS BAY – Westfield State women's soccer's Kayley Miller of Ludlow netted six goals and three assists for 15 points in 4-0-1 week for Owls, earning MVP accolades at the Castleton Invitational, earning her Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week honors.

She scored twice in a 2-1 triumph over Keene State as well as a 3-0 victory over Elmira while adding a marker and a helper each in the team's 2-1 in over University of New England and 4-0 triumph over Eastern Nazarene.

Elms golf takes third, SC sixth at Trinity Invitational

HEBRON, Conn. – Tyler Cudnik of Hampden and Phil Rurak of Wilbraham each notched rounds of 39 on day one, while Cudnik added an 80 and Rurak shot an 85 on day two to notch combined scores of 119 and 124 as the Elms College Blazers finished third overall during the Trinity College Invitational that was shortened by nine holes due to inclement weather.

Alison Cowles of East Longmeadow registered a round of 129.

Senior Kyle DiFranco of East Longmeadow tied for 37th with a combined score of 125 (43-82) for Springfield College.

Local veterans help teammates net first goals

SPRINGFIELD – Jake Bartnik of East Longmeadow had the assist on freshman teammate Chad Burke's first career goal, but the Western New England University men's soccer team suffered a 5-1 loss at the hands of DeSale on Sept. 9.

Women's soccer co-captain Alexis Bshara, a Cathedral alum, registered the helper on sophomore Bonnie Bousquet's first goal, which proved to be the game-winner in a 1-0 affair against DeSales on Sept. 8.

WNE takes third straight President's Cup over WSU

SPRINGFIELD – Westfield State University's (WSU) Michael Mercadante of Wilbraham rushed for 82 yards on 23 carries, including a 1-yard plunge into the end zone, but the Western New England University (WNE) football team used a strong second-half to whip visiting Westfield State 35-10 on Sept. 8.

Fellow Wilbraham native Mike Szydlowski led all players with seven solo tackles for the Owls.

Springfield's Nick Fox-Edele made good on all five of his point after attempts for WNE.
