BOSTON -- At its annual awards luncheon on Sept. 22, the BoSox Club, the official booster organization for the Boston Red Sox, honored the East Longmeadow Post 293 American Legion Baseball Team, winners of the Legion state championship.
Teams representing nine levels of amateur baseball in New England received trophies at the luncheon, held at the Newton Marriott Hotel. Clay Buchholz, pitcher for the Red Sox, was recognized as the BoSox Club Man of the Year for his contributions to the success of the team and for cooperation in community endeavors.
The East Longmeadow Post 293 team is a homegrown enterprise. All of the members of the 2010 team are local boys: seven East Longmeadow High seniors, three juniors, two sophomores, and three first-year college students.
The team won the Massachusetts District 3 title with a regular-season record of 20-1. In the post season it continued to dominate, going 2-1 in the district playoffs, 6-1 in the state tournament, and 5-2 in the Northeast Regional contest.
