CHICOPEE Elms College junior forward Edgar Martinez of Springfield had his No. 21 jersey retired at Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) on Dec. 3 during the team's game against Dean College.
Martinez, who played for the Rams from 2007 to 2009 before transferring to Elms, was a two-time Junior College All-American (first time in school history), and scored 1,068 points during that span.
"The school was very supportive, not only of me but of the entire program," Martinez said. "That was a huge key to our success. Everyone contributed, players, coaches, administrators, it was great to be a part of that."
In his first year with the Blazers, Martinez has already made his presence felt. He has collected 28 points, 18 rebounds and is 4 of 6 from the free throw line through the first four games of the 2009-10 season.
