BUZZARDS BAY Taylor Ezold, the Framingham State softball team's junior second baseman from Westfield was named to the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) weekly honor roll on April 2 after she batted .529 (9-for-17) with three RBIs and five runs scored in a 1-3 week for the Rams, including three hits and three RBIs in a 7-6 setback at UMass Boston.
MASCAC lauds Gaines
BUZZARDS BAY Daniel Gaines, a senior pitcher for the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts baseball team, was named to the MASCAC weekly honor roll on April 2. The Holyoke native allowed two earned runs and fanned six in the Trailblazers' 5-3 win over Massachusetts Maritime.
Foley, Florek sweep Roxbury CC
HOLYOKE The Holyoke Community College (HCC) baseball team's sophomore lefty Bobby Foley of Springfield struck out seven and allowed only two hits over seven scoreless innings for a 1-0 win in game one of an April 1 doubleheader against Roxbury Community College.
West Springfield's Nickolas L'Heureux bunted home the game's only run in the fourth inning.
In game two, HCC recieved another strong pitching performance from freshman righty Zak Florek of Westfield who went seven innnings allowing two runs on two solo homers while striking out eight in a 6-2 win.
Sam Farnsworth of Westfield hit the team's first home run off the season.
Keely's hat trick helps lift WSU
WESTFIELD Elms College senior goalkeeper Rachel Schrutt of Chicopee made 18 saves, but a three-goal effort from Westfield State University's Carly Keeley of Feeding Hills lifted the Owls to a 17-0 victory in a New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance contest on April 5.
Keely also recorded a pair of tallies and two assists as the Owls trounced Massachusetts Maritime Academy 21-5 on April 7.
