Falcons, parent club sign collegians

COLUMBUS, OHIO The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward Cam Atkinson to a two-year entry level contract, club executive vice president and general manager Scott Howson announced March 27.

Atkinson, 21, just completed his junior season at Boston College, where he registered 31 goals and 21 assists for 52 points, 28 penalty minutes and a +21 plus/minus rating in 39 games.

He set a career high in goals, which led the nation for the second consecutive season, while ranking third (tied) in points and sixth (tied) in power play goals (11). He led Hockey East in goals, points (tied) and shorthanded goals (4-tied), was third in game-winning goals (5-tied) and fourth in power play goals.

The Riverside, Connecticut native finished his career at Boston College with 68-56-124, 86 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +42 in 117 games. He had 30-23-53, 30 penalty minutes and was +26 in 42 games in 2009-10, helping the Eagles win the National Championship. He was named the NCAA Northeast Regional Most Outstanding Player and was selected to the NCAA All-Tournament Team.

Prior to his collegiate career, he tallied 69-81-150 and 38 penalty minutes in 80 games for Avon Old Farms (Conn.) High School, helping the school win the New England Ice Hockey Championship in 2006-07 and 2007-08.

The Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League announced March 21 that they signed goaltender Paul Dainton and forward Wade MacLeod to Amateur Tryout Agreements (ATO).

Dainton recently concluded his senior season at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he appeared in 32 games posting a record of 6-18-5 with a 3.06 goals against average and 0.908 save percentage.

In four seasons with the Minutemen, he played in 123 games earning a record of 69-61-12 with a 2.78 goals against average and 0.908 save percentage.

MacLeod also recently completed his collegiate career spending the previous four seasons with the Northeastern University Huskies.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound native of Coquitlam, British Columbia, led the Huskies in scoring three straight years from 2008-2011.

He set career highs this past campaign in goals (22), assists (23), and points (45) in 38 games. In 149 career games at Northeastern, he registered 61 goals and 76 assists, good for 137 points.

On March 17, the Falcons signed forward Aaron Bogosian to an ATO.

The 6-foot, 190-pound native of Massena, N.Y., recently completed his senior season at St. Lawrence University where he was team captain and posted a career high of 14 goals, 14 assists and 28 points in 35 games.

Bogosian spent four seasons at St. Lawrence where he totaled 33 goals and 46 assists for 79 points in 142 career games.
