Falcons release 2010-11 regular season schedule

Aug. 30, 2010

SPRINGFIELD -- The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League (AHL), announced recently their 2010-11 regular season schedule. The Falcons will once again play an 80-game schedule, 40 home games and 40 road games. Springfield will play in the seven-team Atlantic Division located within the Eastern Conference.

The Falcons will open the 2010-11 campaign at Providence on Friday, Oct. 8 before returning home the next night, Saturday, Oct. 9, to host the Bruins at the MassMutual Center starting at 7 pm. Springfield and Providence will be wearing throwback jerseys during the season's first two games as part of the AHL's 75th Anniversary weekend.

As part of their annual summer barbeque on Aug. 25, exclusively for ticket package holders and corporate partners, the Falcons unveiled the special jersey they will be wearing for those games. The special jersey pays homage to the 1936 Springfield Indians.

Following the Falcons' home opener, they will host the Charlotte Checkers for the very first time in franchise history on Oct. 10 at The Nest starting at 3 pm.

"We are very pleased once again with the final schedule," Falcons President and General Manager Bruce Landon said. "It is never perfect as the league has a difficult job to do in trying their best to assist all 30 teams in the League. However, we have 34 of our home games that will be played on either a Friday, Saturday or Sunday which is great. Of our six midweek games, four of them are either before or during a school vacation break."

The Falcons will once again play a majority of their home games on weekend dates, including 12 Friday games, 14 home contests on Saturdays and eight games on Sundays. The Falcons will host three games on Wednesdays and three contests on Tuesdays.

Starting times for home games this season will be 7:30 p.m. for Friday contests, 7 p.m. for games Monday-Thursday and Saturday, and a 3 p.m. starting time for Sunday matinees. The Falcons will have four Saturday home games that start at 7:30 p.m., including Nov. 27, Dec. 11, Jan. 22 and Feb. 26.

The Falcons' busiest stretch of games at home will occur when they play six of seven contests at the MassMutual Center starting on Feb. 8 and concluding on Feb.22. Springfield's longest road trip of the campaign will be five straight games from Jan. 26-Feb. 5.

The Falcons also recently announced that Brad Larsen has been named assistant coach of the Falcons. Larsen will join head coach Rob Riley behind the bench for the 2010-11 season.

"We are very excited to add Brad Larsen as assistant coach," Blue Jackets Assistant General Manager Chris MacFarland said. "Brad always played with passion and energy and we are thrilled to have two quality coaches in Rob and Brad working with our players in Springfield."

Larsen recently concluded his 13-year playing career spending the 2009-10 campaign with the AHL's Portland Pirates collecting 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in 55 games.

The 33-year-old native of Nakusp, British Columbia played in a total of 384 career AHL games totaling 96 goals and 120 assists for 216 points spending time with the Hershey Bears, Chicago Wolves and Portland.
