SPRINGFIELD -- Sophomore women's tennis standouts and Feeding Hills natives Nicole DeSimone and Christina Barbarisi received awards at the Western New England College (WNEC) Spring Sports Banquet on May 9.
DeSimone earned the Coaches Award for outstanding leadership while Barbarisi was honored as the team's Most Improved Player. DeSimone, a sport management major, finished with an 8-10 record in the No. 1 singles position and had a 9-9 record in the top doubles position with senior Kristen Ayers. Barbarisi, a psychology major, was 15-3 overall, including a 13-3 record at the No. 5 singles spot. She teamed up with three different doubles partners for a 13-3 record at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles flights, respectively.
The Golden Bears capped another successful season finishing with a 13-5 record for the fall and spring portions of their schedule and were 8-3 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) to tie for fourth place.
