Foster finishes second in shot put at UMass Invitational

AMHERST — Junior Sanya Foster of Springfield was the runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 13.45 meters, placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 41.65 meters and finished 12th in the hammer with a throw of 36.52 meters as the American International College (AIC) women's track & field team placed sixth of 15 teams with 50.50 points at the UMass Invitational.

Sophomore Jenna Miller of Chicopee placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.60 meters and placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.82 seconds.

Narey produces in losses

CHICOPEE — The Elms College women's lacrosse team was led by sophomore midfielder Kayla Narey of South Hadley, who tallied a team-best three goals including a pair of free position markers, and freshman Elisha Godbout South Hadley chipped in a pair of goals, but Framingham State University beat the Blazers 19-7 on April 17.

Rachel Schrutt of Chicopee made 17 stops in the loss.

On April 19, Narey scored five goals including the game-tying goal on a free position shot with 7:11 to play in the second period to send the game to overtime, but Wheelock College scored with 25 seconds left in the extra frame deal the Blazers a 13-12 loss. Schrutt turned away 11 shots.

Clark, Golden Bears pound Williams, WSU

WILLIAMSTOWN — Junior second baseman Tim Clark of West Springfield had three hits with a run scored and an RBI as the Western New England University (WNE) baseball team pounded out 20 hits and broke a close game open with six runs in the fourth inning en route to a 14-6 decision for its 20th victory of the season over Williams on April 17.

On April 19, Clark went 1-for-2 with two RBIs as th Golden Bears recorded 15 runs on 15 hits in a 15-5 win over Westfield State University.

Conway nets two in setback

BUZZARDS BAY — Senior Kerri Conway of West Springfield scored two goals, including a free position conversion, but the Massachusetts Maritime Academy women's lacrosse team fell to Salem State 20-9 on April 19. Sophomore Mic Boyer of South Hadley registered an assist for Salem State.

Keeley leads WSU with four goals

DANBURY, Conn. — Senior Carly Keeley of Feeding Hills scored four goals, but the WSU womens lacrosse team fell to Western Connecticut State University 20-10 on April 19.

Keeley also netted a hat trick in a 9-5 loss to Bridgewater State University on April 21.

Clark continues hitting streak

NORTH ANDOVER — Dave Clark of West Springfield went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases, while Dan Asselin of Chicopee recorded three hits, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base in the AIC baseball team's 13-10 win over Merrimack College on April 19.

Clark collected three hits, including a double, with three RBIs and two runs scored to extend his 20-game hitting streak as the team banged out 32 hits in sweeping a doubleheader 7-0 and 15-6 over host Roger Williams on April 21.

Miller places fifth at Holy Cross Heptathlon

WORCESTER — AIC's Jenna Miller of Chicopee placed fifth in a field of 18 competitors with 3,858 points at the Holy Cross Heptathlon, which took place on April 18 and 19. Miller recorded a time of 15.71 seconds 100-meter hurdles, cleared 1.60 meters in the high jump, threw the shot 7.16 meters, and finished the 200-meter dash with at time of 27.37 seconds on the first day before recording a distance of 5.23 meters in the long jump, throwing the javelin 13.18 meters and posting a time of 2:41.17 in the 800-meter run.

Burnette earns win in relief

HOLYOKE — The Elms College baseball team's junior righthander Ryan Burnette of Chicopee pitched a pair of scoreless frames of relief issuing three strikeouts for the win as the Blazers beat Southern Vermont College 8-6 on April 20.
