Jonathan nets four goals for Blazers |

CHICOPEE Elms College sophomore forward Ziggy Jonathan of Springfield found the back of the net four times and added an assist to help the Blazers post a convincing 7-1 victory over Rivier College in a non-conference men’s soccer game on Oct. 20.
Elms scored early in the contest when Jonathan blasted the first of his four goals on a pass from junior midfielder Tavish Leland in the 10th minute.
The Blazers held its 1-0 edge until the 32nd minute of play when they struck for three scores in a 10-minute period, sparked by Jonathan’s second goal of the contest.
At the 54:11 mark of the second half, freshman defender Anthony Nitri of Feeding Hills connected with Jonathan, who drove home his third goal of the game upping Elms’ advantage to 5-0 and Jonathan capped the scoring in the 83rd minute with his fourth goal.
Locals compete at NEIGA Championship
SPRINGFIELD East Long-meadow’s Kyle DiFranco tied for 40th overall, rebounding from an opening-day score of 81 with a round of 75 for a two-day total of 156 as the Springfield College golf team placed 15th among 34 schools at the 77th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Champion-ship on Oct. 19 at The Captains Course in Brewster.
Western New England’s Anthony Willett of Springfield totaled a score of 159 (80-79), which tied for 64th, as the Golden Bears placed 11th.
Meanwhile, sophomore Tommy LeBlanc, also of Springfield, was one of 12 players tied for 82nd with a 161 (83-78) as American International College place seventh as a team.
