Keough, Guerin selected for All-Star Lacrosse Academy |

EAST LONGMEADOW Conor Keough and Michael Guerin, both of East Longmeadow, were selected to be participants at the Brine National All-Star Lacrosse Academy in Maryland from June 30 to July 3.
The two were selected after taking part in a New England regional qualifier that took place at Harvard University. They are two of 25 participants selected from Massachusetts and two of only three to be selected from the Pioneer Valley.
Local WNE athletes named to CCC Academic Team
SPRINGFIELD Mens basketball player Ryan Mickiewicz of East Longmeadow, and womens swimming and diving team member Paige Scudder of Wilbraham were among the 80 Western New England University student-athletes who were named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Academic Team for 2011-12.
The All-Conference honor squad consists of any starter or significant reserve who has attained at least sophomore status and has maintained an overall minimum GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00.
High school fall coaches' meeting dates announced
GREATER SPRINGFIELD The Pioneer Valley Interscholastic Athletic Association has released the dates for the fall preseason coaches' meetings.
The meetings will take place as follows: - Cross country Aug. 27, Holyoke Community College, 6 p.m;
- Soccer Aug. 27, Holyoke High School, 7 p.m.;
- Field hockey Aug. 27, Northampton High School, 7 p.m.
- Gymnastics Aug. 27, Northampton High School, TBA
- Girls volleyball Aug. 27, Volleyball Hall of Fame, 7 p.m.
- Golf Aug. 27, Northampton High School, & p.m.
- Football Sept. 5, Greenfield High School, 7 p.m.
CC of Wilbraham to host Amateur Golf Championships
WILBRAHAM The Country Club of Wilbraham will host the first annual Western Massachusetts Golf Amateur Championships on July 30. There will be several divisions including Mens, Women, Senior and Super Senior.
Details will be available in the next couple of weeks.
The event will be the first in a series of Championships throughout Western Massachusetts. Other courses have stepped up to host events and hope to have a schedule soon.
Wildcat Golf Tournament a success
EAST LONGMEADOW The sixth annual Bay Path College Wildcat Golf Tournament was played on June 11 at Elmcrest Golf Course with over more than 115 golfers hitting the links.
This year the community organization selected to receive the more than $430 proceeds from the Sport Putting Contest was Special Olympics.
Proceeds from the tournament help provide needed funds for uniforms, equipment and athletic related items. More than 20 current and former student-athletes were on hand to greet, meet, help register, carry clubs to carts, take pictures and be on the golf course to assist the golfers.
Highlights included a Hole in One on the seventh hole by Dave Moreau. Katie Jones won the putting contest.
