Longmeadow hockey falls in semis |

SPRINGFIELD — The Longmeadow High School hockey team's season came to an end with a 3-1 loss to Hudson on March 15 in the state semifinals at the MassMutual Center.
Charlie Kelleher scored for the Lancers in the first period on a Brett Rabideau assist, but Hudson's defense clamped down over the remainder of the game, allowing just 10 shots.
Tommy McCarthy made 24 saves in a strong effort for the Western Massachusetts champions.
Berthiaume receives two first team All-State selections
SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield College (SC) men's basketball team received a double shot in the arm last week as junior guard Alex Berthiaume was named a First Team All-Northeast All-Star by both the National Association of Basketball Coaches and D3Hoops.com. Berthiaume had earlier been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
In addition, Berthiaume had been named NEWMAC First Team All-Conference two weeks ago.
A native of Springfield, Berthiaume had a great year in leading the Pride to a berth in the finals of the NEWMAC post-season conference tournament. SC lost by five to an MIT team, which this weekend will be competing in the NCAA Division III Final Four.
He led the entire NEWMAC in scoring average (19.2 ppg) and total points in the regular season (519). He also ranked second in the league in steals (43) and third in assists (92). He scored 20 points or more a total of 14 times in 27 games, and reached the 30-point plateau three times. He also topped the league in average minutes per game (34.8).
Moriarty sets up wins for Wentworth volleyball
BOSTON — Tyler Moriarty of Wilbraham finished with 41 assists and 14 digs as the Wentworth men's volleyball team rallied to take a 3-2 decision over Albertus Manus in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Tansey Gymnasium on March 13.
Moriarty followed that up with 33 assists, eight digs, and a pair of aces in 3-1 win over Emerson in GNAC play on March 15.
