WINDSOR, CONN. -- Kate McCarthy, a senior at the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn., has been named Connecticut Girls Soccer Player of the Year for 2009-10 by Gatorade and ESPN RISE. McCarthy, who is a resident of Longmeadow, becomes Loomis Chaffee's third girls soccer player to be chosen for this honor.
Loomis Chaffee senior Kate McCarthy was recently named Connecticut Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
The award recognizes McCarthy as Connecticut's best high school girls soccer player based upon not only her prowess on the pitch but also outstanding academic achievement and character. She has maintained a B average in the classroom at Loomis Chaffee and volunteered as a youth soccer instructor in her hometown of Longmeadow.
As a senior midfielder McCarthy tallied 10 goals and eight assists this season, helping the Loomis Chaffee Pelicans to a 16-1-3 season and advancement to the New England Prep School Class A Championship game, which the team lost 1-0. As a two-time ESPN RISE Third Team All-American and a three-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-New England selection, McCarthy rounds out her Loomis Chaffee soccer career with 53 goals and 44 assists.
