Ludlow natives earn MASCAC honors

BUZZARDS BAY – Worcester State University’s Robert White of Ludlow earned Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Field Player of the Week after he placed third as the top collegiate finisher in the weight throw and bettered Division III New England Championship mark with a toss of 48 feet, 11.75 inches (14.93 meters) at the Tufts Invitational.

Ludlow’s Jenna Williamson a junior guard for the Bridgewater State University women’s basketball team, averaged 23 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists in a 2-1 week for the Bears, including 29 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal in an 81-76 win over the Rams, and 29 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 63-48 win over the Lancers to earn MASCAC Player of the Week honors.

Phillips wins two events in Pride’s loss

NEW YORK – Callie Phillips of East Longmeadow, Mass., took first in the 500-yard freestyle clocking in at 5:17.48 during the Springfield College women’s swimming and diving teams a 164-136 loss to host New York University on Jan. 18. Phillips also went on to place second in the 1000 free after touching in 10:51.96.

Pessolano nets 12 points, leads Golden Bears past Endicott

BEVERLY – Ali Pessolano of Hampden scored 12 points to lead the Western New England University women’s basketball team to a 53-49 road upset of Endicott College on Jan. 18. Pessolano drained a three-pointer from the right elbow for a 48-42 lead with two minutes and 53 seconds left in the game to give the Golden Bears breathing room.

Skiffington’s huge game carries Bay Path past Wheelock

HOLYOKE – Senior forward Kayla Skiffington of East Longmeadow topped all players for the night with 25 points and 14 rebounds in the Bay Path College women’s basketball team’s 68-52 win over Wheelock College on Jan. 18. She also added five assists, two steals and two blocks.

Aaliyah Gordon of Springfield notched 10 points and 10 rebounds, in Bay Path’s 54-35 win over Newbury College on Jan. 14. Skiffington also chipped in eight points and 10 rebounds.
