McDonald, Hutchings compete in round at Chautauqua Golf Course

CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. — Chautauqua Golf Course presented quite a challenge for the NCAA's top golfers on June 9 as nobody in the field of 89 finished below par.

Holyoke Community College's (HCC) Colin McDonald finished 74th overall with a final score of 344 (+56). McDonald's best round of the tournament was a 82 (+10) on the opening day.

HCC's Thomas Hutchings finished 82nd overall with a final score of 360 (+72). Hutchings' best round was on the third day when he shot a 85 (+13).

Elms cancels summer camps

CHICOPEE — All summer sports camps at Elms College have been cancelled. Visit the athletics website for information on future camps and clinics.

The coaches of each individual sports camp will contact enrolled participants with more information.

Edgewood GC hosts family tournament

SOUTHWICK — More than 50 players participated in Edgewood Golf Club's Family Day tournament. The tournament featured four divisions — father/son, father/daughter, husband/wife, and the "other" division in which any two family members can play together.

Jeff and Jarron Makuch took first in the father/son division with a score of 65, while Mike and Kevin Slyne (68) and Charlie Rood Jr and Charlie rood III (70) finished second and third, respectively.

Doug and Linda Goodrich scored a 68 to win the husband/wife division, followed by Carl and Barbara Riggott, who shot a 73.

A score of 70 was good enough for Lloyd and Nate Sindland to win the "other" division, one stroke better than Phil Connors and J. Michaud. Tim Foster and Mike Talis finished third with a 72.

Mike and Sarah Wargo won the father/daughter division with a score of 73.

Oak Ridge GC to host amateur tournament

FEEDING HILLS — The Miller Eastern Amateur will be a two-day event July 28 and 29.

Those interested in participating can sign up using the sheet posted outside of the golf shop or by calling 789-7307. The events are open to anyone with an established USGA Handicap. Those who do not currently have one, can receive one from Oak Ridge for an annual fee of $40.
