McMahon wins hurdles at MASCAC track championships
BRIDGEWATER – Sophomore Alexandria McMahon of East Longmeadow captured the individual conference title in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.59 as Worcester State University successfully defended its title at the 2013 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships on April 27.
Her performance earned her a spot on the MASCAC honor roll.
Ludlow's Jenn Holley was part of the Westfield State University (WSU) 4 x 800 relay team that captured the MASCAC crown with a time of 10:08.92.
Springfield's Karen Dowe was runner up in the triple jump (35-3 ¾) for WSU.
Reardon named to All-CCC first team
SPRINGFIELD – Longmeadow's James Reardon was named to the 2013 All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse first team.
Reardon has contributed nine goals and 15 assists for 24 points to repeat All-CCC status after making the second team last season. He tops Western New England University (WNE) midfielders in assists. He is majoring in business finance.
Calabrese's single scores winning run in SC shutout
SPRINGFIELD – East Longmeadow's Frank Calabrese accounted for the Springfield College baseball team's lone RBI as he ripped a single to right field as the Pride defeated Keene State 1-0 on April 30.
WNE golf places second at CCC championships
ESSEX – Senior Steven Langlois of Wilbraham finished 15th overall with a two-day score of 171 (90, 81) as the WNE men's golf team took second place at the 2013 CCC Men's Golf Championships on April 28.
Bay Path hosts first-ever home lacrosse game
LONGMEADOW – Bay Path College hosted Daniel Webster College in the first NCAA game at Ryan Field in women's lacrosse, falling 12-8.
East Longmeadow's Jillian O'Melia netted a goal and an assist while Longmeadow's Shelby Regan also potted a goal.
Stack records hat trick as WSU cruises to victory
WESTFIELD – Senior Maura Stack of Wilbraham had game highs of three goals and five points as the WSU women's lacrosse team coasted to a 16-1 victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy on April 27.
The effort earned her a spot on the MASCAC women's lacrosse honor roll.
Cava nets two in loss
CHICOPEE – Freshman attacker Ashley Cava of Wilbraham netted two goals, but the Elms College women's lacrosse team suffered a 21-17 loss to Wheelock College on April 27.
Gonyea delivers RBI in win
CHICOPEE – An RBI single off the bat of sophomore designated player Gianna Gonyea of East Longmeadow gave the Elms College softball team a 5-0 lead in what was eventually a 6-5 win over Newbury College in the nightcap of a split doubleheader on April 27. The Blazers lost the first game 6-1.
Elms golf wins Blazers Invitational
GRANBY – Senior Phil Rurak of Wilbraham shot even par on the front nine and tied for second place with a score of 77 to help the Elms College men's golf team to a score of 308 to win the Blazer Invitational on April 24. Junior Tyler Cudnik of Hampden carded a round of 79.
