Medina, Caliento lead WNE to win Jan. 9,

SPRINGFIELD – Senior tri-captain Anthony Medina of Springfield won a 13-3 major decision at 149 pounds and Tom Caliento of East Longmeadow earned an 8-3 major decision as the Western New England University wrestling team made its home debut in the New Year a memorable one by winning five of six bouts to overpower visiting Bridgewater State 48-3 on Jan. 6.
Phillips dominates as Pride tops Hartwick, Union
ONEONTA, N.Y. – Callie Phillips of East Longmeadow, Mass., was tremendous as she picked up three victories, winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.41, touching first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:14.04, and taking the 500-yard freestyle in 5:14.97 as the Springfield College women's swimming and diving team cruised past both Union and Hartwick in a tri-meet earlier this month. The Pride eased past Hartwick, 153-83 and handled Union, 141-87.
Normoyle strong as Pride splits tri-meet
ONEONTA, N.Y. – Michael Normoyle of Springfield, Mass., edged the competition to post a winning time of 2:02.44 in the 200-yard individual medley and later won the 200 breast with a time of 2:13.02 as he Springfield College men's swimming and diving team defeated Union and lost to Hartwick in a tri-meet earlier this month. The Pride picked up a 147-96 victory against Union, while being edged by host Hartwick 128-113.
Felix continues to lead WSU
WESTFIELD – Sophomore center Gabby Felix of Springfield led the Owls with 14 points and nine rebounds, but Smith College took an 82-60 victory over Westfield State University in non-conference action on Jan. 2.
Senior guard Briana Kelly of Hampden scored 12 points.
Felix also led the way with 14 points and 8 rebounds for the Owls as the team jumped out to a huge early lead and cruised to an easy 64-53 victory at Salem State University on Jan. 5.
She was named to the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference and New England Women's Basketball Association honor rolls.
