New England Revolution vet brings glitz to Boston

Jay Heaps, a Longmeadow native and former superstar of the New England Revolution, will help the Ellie Fund bring the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to Boston on March 7 for the Ellie Fund's Oscar Night Boston Gala. Heaps, who announced his retirement from the NE Revolution in late 2009, will join many other celebrity VIPs at the Ellie Fund's Oscar Night Boston Gala at the Langham Hotel to raise money and awareness for the Ellie Fund's innovative "Care for the Caregiver" program.

The "Care for the Caregiver" program provides transportation to medical appointments, childcare, housekeeping and meals free of charge for more than 500 women and families each year undergoing treatment for breast cancer in Massachusetts. The Ellie Fund's Oscar Night Boston Gala features an upscale menu including lavish hors d'oeuvres, chef's stations, wine pairings and the Langham Boston's famous chocolate bar buffet.

Guests will also be treated to fabulous swag bags, and be invited to participate in a silent auction featuring exclusive movie memorabilia from nominated films, as well as restaurant and spa packages. A live telecast of the Academy Awards straight from Hollywood will also be featured at the event.

Heaps played for the NE Revolution, his hometown team, from 2001 until his retirement in 2009. His soccer stardom can be traced back to Longmeadow High School, where he earned All-American honors during his high school career. Heaps also went on to be a star athlete at Duke University, playing for the Blue Devils soccer and basketball teams before being drafted into the MLS in 1999. As a member of the Revolution, Heaps led his team to four MLS championship games. He also had the honor of representing his country on the U.S. National Team.

Heaps will be attending the Ellie Fund's Oscar Night Boston Gala on March 7 to use his own celebrity to shine a spotlight on this amazing cause and outstanding charity. Event tickets are $175 before Feb. 22 and $225 thereafter. The title sponsor of the Ellie Fund's Oscar Night America is Subaru of New England.
