On Feb. 18, the 2012 Basketball Skills Challenge took place at East Longmeadow High School for children in grades three to eight. Winners of local challenges advance to the Basketball Hall of Fame for the March 2012 Regional Championships, which will take place on March 13.
Representing Longmeadow at the local Skills Challenge was Brad Moccio of the Longmeadow Knights third and fourth grade Suburban League. Moccio was named overall winner of the third grade division and will advance to the regional finals.
"I've had the pleasure of coaching Brad this year. He's an outstanding player, and led our team to the league playoffs to be held in a few weeks," Joann Vallera, coach of the Longmeadow Knights, said. "Brad is extremely hard working and very dedicated to the sport. Nobody is more deserving of this award. Brad is surrounded by a very caring family who dedicates countless hours to all their kids' athletic endeavors."
