SLAMM to host open tryouts

SPRINGFIELD The Springfield SLAMM of The Greater Hartford Pro-Am Basketball League and The Springfield Pro-Am League are holding open tryouts in November for players interested in pursuing their basketball careers.

Head Coach Steve Sobel said, "We are looking for a few players who feel that they have the physical talent and mental fortitude to compete at a very high level."

Several of Sobel's players have been given recent tryouts with the National Basketball Association, including Stephan Lasme with the Celtics and Gary Forbes with the Denver Nuggets. Ater Majo, formerly of the University of Connecticut, is now pursuing a professional career as well and is projected to be an NBA pick.

Many Division I and Division II basketball players have been given playing opportunities with the SLAMM to further their skills.

The SLAMM will continue their vigorous and commited approach to community involvement, i.e. clinics and presentations to places such as Connecticut Children's Hospitals and other organizations.

Sobel was also the recent keynote speaker for The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, Lenox Corp., and the University of Notre Dame.

All tryouts are one-on-one with Sobel and his assistant coaches.
