The Springfield SLAMM, of the Greater Springfield Pro-Am Basketball League, and one of the premier pro-am teams in New England, has committed to play their upcoming 2009 summer basketball season as a member of the Greater Hartford Pro-Am League.
The Greater Hartford Pro-Am is entering its 13th year in operation. This will offer the SLAMM and its many fans the opportunity to see extremely competitive basketball games, several times during the week within easy driving distance. The SLAMM also plan to play special showcase games in the greater Springfield area as well. Admission is free and the season starts at the end of June.
The SLAMM will feature selected players, mostly from division one basketball programs, as well as mamy of whom have played overseas or on other professional teams. Several SLAMM players will further their basketball career in the professional ranks as well after their collegiate careers. Former UMass player Etienne Brower, who had an outstanding year for the SLAMM the previous season parlayed his success in the pro-am into a wonderful senior year at UMass (NIT finalists). Currently Brower is enjoying success playing overseas.
The SLAMM has a full compliment of coaches. The head coach is Dr. Steve Sobel. He is assisted by the associate head coach, Aaron Patterson, and the two assistant coaches, Ethan Sobel and Richard Allen. The director of player development is Timothy Jackson and Senior VP is Charles Kittredge.
