SPRINGFIELD Springfield College has reached an agreement with ESPN 1450 The Hall to broadcast its four home football games for the upcoming 2011 campaign. Coupled with its increasing video-streaming efforts, this partnership provides families, friends, and fans of Springfield College football another opportunity to follow the Pride this season.
In addition to being able to listen on 1450 AM, the games will be audio-streamed on www.espnspringfield.com as well as on the Springfield College Web site located at www.springfieldcollege.edu/athletics.
“This is certainly another exciting step for Springfield College athletics,” Dr. Cathie Schweitzer, director of athletics, said. “This partnership makes so much sense and provides another avenue to follow our student-athletes.”
Anchoring the play-by-play will be Springfield College faculty member Kyle Belanger, who will be assisted by several students from the communications and sports journalism major.
“We are very excited to be entering in this partnership,” Rob Anthony, program director and operations manager at ESPN 1450, explained. “Kyle brings so much to the table and it was very important to us to provide Springfield College with a venue to broadcast their games after the June 1 tornado damaged their radio station.”
The Pride will kick off the season on Sept. 10 when it hosts Frostburg State in Empire 8 Conference action at 1 p.m. Springfield’s three other home games include Husson (Sept. 17), Ithaca (Oct. 15), and St. John Fisher (Oct. 22).
