SPRINGFIELD Sensei Israel Lopez of Springfield was awarded the silver medal in the Men's Master's division, while Senior Instructor Aaron Cote of Warren, took home the gold medal in the Men's Novice division and the bronze medal in the Men's Master's division of the 10th annual Morris Cup Judo Tournament.
The event boasts some of the best Judo athletes in North America, including members of the Canadian National Judo Team and The USA Olympic Judo Team.
Sen-I Judo Club, while fairly new to Palmer, has been well established in Massachusetts for more than 15 years under the direction of Master Kenneth Miarecki. Now under the direction of Sensei Israel Lopez, the club is proving that local, noteworthy talent exists, and is showing rapid progression.
Since its inception as a Judo Club in Palmer in September 2010, Sen-I has placed in the top three spots of all six tournaments in which it has competed.
Along with the Judo Club, Sen-I also has a Karate division which teaches the art in a practical approach for both effective street defense and sport application.
In November 2010, six of their Karate students took home three first place, three second place and a third place trophy from a local Karate tournament in Bridgewater.
The Palmer dojo is looking forward to a very productive summer training schedule of continued technique improvement, and to scout new talent.
