Sprint Triathlon set for May 2

GREATER SPRINGFIELD -- Sheriff Michael Ashe Jr. has announced that the Sheriff's Department will host a Sprint Triathlon to benefit the Ludlow Boys and Girls Club on May 2. The event begins at 9 a.m. and will start and finish at the Ludlow Boys and Girls Club, 91 Claudia's Way. Country Bank for Savings will serve as event sponsor for this sixth Annual Sprint Triathlon. F.I.R.M. (Fiske Independent Race Management) will be the race manager.

The triathlon will begin with a 300 yard swim in the indoor pool at the Boys and Girls Club followed by a nine mile bicycle race, and ending with a 3.2 mile road race. Individual and team entries are welcomed. Awards will be presented to the top three males and females in various age categories, top Athena and Clydesdale athletes and the top two teams in the all male, all female and mixed categories. Entry fees are $70 per individual and $90 per team. Athletes can download an application or register at www.firm-racing.com.

Proceeds from the triathlon will help support the club's youth fitness and wellness programs and our "no child left inside" initiatives.
