Sprint Triathlon to benefit Boys and Girls Club

GREATER SPRINGFIELD -- Sheriff Michael Ashe Jr. has announced that the Sheriff's Department will host a Sprint Triathlon to benefit the Ludlow Boys and Girls Club on May 2. The event begins at 9 a.m. and will start and finish at the Ludlow Boys and Girls Club, 91 Claudia's Way in Ludlow. Country Bank for Savings will serve as event sponsor for this sixth Annual Sprint Triathlon. F.I.R.M. (Fiske Independent Race Management) will be the race manager.

The Triathlon will begin with a 300 yard swim in the indoor pool at the Boys and Girls Club followed by a nine mile bicycle race, and ending with a 3.2 mile road race. Individual and team entries are welcomed. This is a great event for all triathlon competitors ranging from the serious athlete to the weekend warrior. Awards will be presented to the top three males and the top three females in various age categories, top Athena and Clydesdale athletes and the top two teams in the all male, all female, and mixed categories. T-shirts are provided to all pre-registered athletes and the first 25 athletes to register on race day. Entry fees are $70 per individual and $90 per team. Proceeds from the triathlon will help support the club's youth fitness and wellness programs and our "no child left inside" initiatives highlighted by the construction of our splash park impacting our youth members in our preschool, after school and summer camp programs. The Boys and Girls Club serves 2,700 children in the Ludlow area.
