CHICOPEE – Elms College freshman outside hitter Jeff Vautrin of Chicopee, was named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Year and First Team All-NECC and was one of three Blazers named all-conference as announced by the league on April 15.
Vautrin hit at a .337 clip with a team-high 148 kills on 291 swings with just 50 errors to help Elms to a 7-5 mark in conference action during the 2013 season. He added a team-high 18 service aces and 108 total digs averaging 2.30 per set in league play and becomes the fourth Blazers' men's volleyball player to be named NECC Rookie of the Year since the inaugural season in 2009.
McDonough nets five goals in Elms lacrosse victory
BUZZARDS BAY – Elms College sophomore attacker Nora McDonough of South Hadley netted a game-high five goals and the Blazers scored six in the second half of play to help stake a 10-8 victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy on April 11.
Sophomore midfielder Lauren Mazza of Agawam and senior attacker Chelsey Grabowski of South Hadley also delivered scoring strikes, while freshman defender Emily Brown of Agawam scooped four ground balls for the Blazers.
Marcus aids in WNE victory
SPRINGFIELD – Senior Ryan Marcus of South Hadley came off the bench to score three points on a goal and two assists to lead the Western New England University (WNE) men's lacrosse team to an 11-9 victory over a pesky Roger Williams University team on April 10.
Clark records two hits as WNE squeaks past Keene State
KEENE, N.H. – Senior co-captain Tim Clark of West Springfield had two hits as the WNE baseball team jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings and then had to stave off a furious Keene State College rally to nip the Owls 7-6 on April 10.
