Walz named NECC Player of the Week for Daniel Webster |

NASHUA, N.H. For the second time this season, Daniel Webster College (DWC) men's volleyball player Joe Walz of East Longmeadow has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week on March 26.
Walz, a sophomore outside hitter, averaged 4.5 kills per set, 2.67 digs and added four service aces and five total blocks in a pair of DWC victories over NECC competition.
Walz, who was also named to the award on Feb. 20, opened the week knocking down match-highs with 16 kills, 13 digs and four aces, and chipped in with a solo block as the Eagles bested Southern Vermont College, 3-0, on March 22.
Walz followed with another match-high 11 kills and added three digs and four total blocks (one solo) as DWC defeated Newbury College for the first time in program history on March 24.
Robitaille named Field Athlete of the Week
BUZZARDS BAY Carrie Robitaille, a Ludlow native at Bridgewater State University, took top honors and qualified for Division III New Englands in both the triple jump (10.50 meters) and the high jump (1.52 meters) while adding a first place finish in the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.88) and a second place performance in the 100 meter hurdles (17.24) for the Bears at the Bridgewater State Bears Invitational to earn Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Welsh assists winning effort
CHICOPEE Sophomore setter Kevin Welsh of Wilbraham had 19 assists to help lift Elms to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-12) win over Lesley University on March 24.
Hampden duo key in Elms win
LEICESTER Brady Forrest was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while fellow Hampden native Nico Iavicoli collected a pair of base knocks to highlight the Elms College baseball team's 16 hits in a 9-5 victory over Becker College on March 25.
Pereira placed sixth at Saint Thomas Aquinas Invitational
OCEAN CITY, Md. Junior Nate Pereira of Ludlow placed sixth overall with a six-over par 150 (74-76) as the American International College (AIC) men's golf team tied for third among the 14 teams competing at the Saint Thomas Aquinas Invitational on March 26.
Sophomore Tommy LeBlanc of Springfield tied for 30th with a 13-over 157 (79-78).
Divine scores in dramatic fashion
SPRINGFIELD Nicholas Devine of Springfield scored the game winning run in the bottom of the 13th inning in Springfield College's dramatic 3-2 victory over Franklin Pierce University on March 25.
Foster wins shot put at Jerry Gravel Classic
WESTFIELD AIC Junior Sanya Foster of Springfield won the shot put with a throw of 12.54 meters and AIC women's outdoor track and field team placed second in the fourth annual Jerry Gravel Classic on March 24.
MASCAC honors for Hager
BUZZARDS BAY Kaitland Hager, a senior outfielder for the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts from Springfield, collected five hits and three RBIs in the Trailblazers' twin-bill split at Bay Path College to earn herself a spot on the MASCAC weekly honor roll on March 26.
Wentworth wins behind Moriarty's 20 assists
BOSTON Junior Tyler Moriarty of Wilbraham had 20 assists as the Wentworth men's volleyball team snapped a five-match losing streak with a 3-1 win over Lasell College on March 27.
Harrington nets four, Elms falls
NASHUA, N.H. Elms College junior attacker Kaitlyn Harrington of East Longmeadow tallied a team-high four goals but DWC netted the game-winner in the second period of extra time to lift the Eagles to a thrilling 9-8 double overtime victory over the Blazers in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on March 27.
Stack nets five in setback
NORTHAMPTON Wilbraham's Maura Stack scored five goals and assisted another for the Westfield State University (WSU) women's lacrosse team, but the Owls couldn't keep up with Smith College in a 17-14 loss on March 27.
Ogden plates two in split
LONGMEADOW Nicole Ogden of Springfield went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI as the Bay Path College softball team took a 7-6 decision in the second game of a doubleheader with Albertus Magnus on March 27.
On the day, Ogden finished with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Reardon pots two goals in win
SPRINGFIELD Junior midfielder James Reardon of Longmeadow scored two goals with an assist to lead the Western New England men's lacrosse team to an 8-1 victory over Gordon on March 28.
Dorsey scores twice, but SC loses
SPRINGFIELD Springfield College's Michelle Dorsey of Wilbraham netted two goals and three draw controls, but the visiting Amherst College women's lacrosse team reeled off nine-straight goals midway through the first half and never looked back as it downed Springfield College 14-10 on March 28.
Iavicoli has big day for Elms
HOLYOKE The Elms College baseball team's senior third baseman Nico Iavicoli, a Hampden native, was 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBIs to help pace the Blazers to a 9-1 victory over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on March 29.
Calabrese finds home twice in loss to Owls
WESTFIELD East Longmeadow's Frank Calabrese scored twice as part of a 1-for-4 day, but the Springfield College men's baseball team dropped a 7-5 decision to WSU on March 29.
