Williamson's terrific second half lifts Bridgewater State over WSU |

WESTFIELD Sophomore guard Jenna Williamson of Ludlow scored a game-high 29 points, including 23 in the second half, to lead the Bridgewater State University women's basketball team to a 72-67 victory over Westfield State University (WSU) on Feb. 4.
Williamson was 11 for 15 from the field and made three big three-point baskets in the second half.
Pride tops Golden Bears
SPRINGFIELD Junior guard Alex Berthiaume of Springfield poured-in 30 points to lead the Springfield men's basketball team to an 85-70 non-conference victory over visiting Western New England University (WNE) in a battle of city rivals on Feb. 6 at Blake Arena.
Schmidt earns Little East award
WESTFIELD WSU senior Kim Schmidt was named diver of the week in the Little East Conference.
Schmidt dominated the one-meter diving competition this past weekend against Western Connecticut.
The senior from Longmeadow posted a score of 251.35 points to earn the top spot on the podium. Schmidt utilized the three-meter board as an exhibition since the Owls had already won the dual meet with the Colonials.
Brown honored by MASCAC
BUZZARDS BAY Jamal Brown, a senior forward for the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) from Springfield, was named to the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference honor roll on Feb. 5.
Brown averaged 18 points and seven rebounds in an 0-2 week for the Trailblazers, including 27 points and eight boards in a 87-78 loss to Salem State.
He shot 64 percent (14-22) from the field for the week.
Cooper strong on the boards
SPRINGFIELD Brennan Cooper of Springfield scored six points while pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds, but the American International College men's basketball team dropped a tightly contested contest 63-55 to Adelphi University on Feb. 4.
Pessolano continues solid play
BEVERLY Sophomore guard Ali Pessolano of Hampden added 12 points and eight rebounds as the WNE women's basketball team ran its winning streak to five games with a solid 60-47 victory over Endicott College on Feb. 4.
Kaselouskas scores in rout
SPRINGFIELD Senior forward Mike Kaselouskas of East Longmeadow put the WNE men's hockey team ahead 6-3 with a goal at the 4:48 mark in the third period as the Golden Bears rolled over Curry College 10-3 on Feb. 4.
Felix continues to impress during freshman campaign
WESTFIELD Freshman center Gabby Felix of Springfield has continued to play consistently well in the paint for the WSU women's basketball team.
Felix had 14 points and seven rebound in the Owls' 72-67 loss to Bridgewater State and was also a key player in the team's close 72-70 loss to MCLA on Feb. 7, scoring 12 points while pulling down a team-high seven rebounds.
Skiffington has monster game
LONGMEADOW Sophomore forward Kayla Skiffington of East Longmeadow led the Bay Path College women's basketball team with 22 points and the game high 23 rebounds en route to a second half come from behind win over the Southern Vermont Mountaineers 63-57 on Feb. 9.
