WNEC players and Wilbraham natives Jared Pabis and Brody Savoie named Men's Lacrosse All-Americans
SPRINGFIELD Juniors Jared Pabis and Brody Savoie, both from Wilbraham, were among the six Western New England College players named to the 2008 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III All-America Team, which was announced May 25 at the organization's annual Reception Banquet at the Boston Marriott Copley Place.
Pabis and Savoie each gained All-America Honorable Mention. Pabis also was 2007 USILA All-America selection.
A defender, Pabis helped anchor the Golden Bears unit that finished 13th nationally in scoring defense (6.95 avg.). He was third on the team in ground balls (70).
Savoie, an attacker, was fourth on the team with 48 points (33 goals, 15 assists) in a successful return to the lineup. He didn't play last year after serving in Iraq with the U.S. Marine Reserves.
Both Pabis and Savoie also were selected to both the Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) and New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All-Star Teams.
Senior face-off specialist Travis Brown (Chapel Hill, N.C.) made the All-America Second Team, the highest award ever by a Golden Bears' player. He was a Third-Team pick last year.
Senior midfielder Jon Hayes (Waltham, Mass.) was a Third-Team selection after gaining Honorable Mention recognition in 2007.
Also earning All-American Honorable Mention awards were senior goalie Chris Body (Newtown, Conn.) and senior attacker Mike Kelly (Cheshire, Conn.).
Western New England College posted a 15-5 record this past season, won TCCC Tournament title in its first season in the league, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second straight year.
