WNE men's lacrosse releases 2013 schedule

Dec. 10, 2012
SPRINGFIELD – Western New England University men's lacrosse coach John Klepacki announced the Golden Bears' 2013 schedule on Dec. 5, which includes 75 percent of the final four field last May.

Western New England, which is projected to return six starters among 39 lettermen from last season's 13-5 team that swept the Commonwealth Coast Conference regular-season (7-0) and tournament titles, opens up against NCAA Semifinalist Stevenson (March 2) on the road. The Golden Bears will also play at Tufts (March 24) and at SUNY Cortland (April 4), both national semifinal opponents like the Mustangs.

The seven-game non-conference schedule also includes 2012 NCAA tournament teams Trinity-Conn. (March 12) and Rochester Institute of Technology (March 15) on the road and Springfield (March 30) at home.

"We are excited about our 2013 schedule that includes many NCAA tournament, nationally-ranked teams," Klepacki said. "We look forward to the challenge of playing against a national schedule, which will help us prepare for conference play. Our goals are high every season and one of those expectations for Western New England Men's Lacrosse is to embrace the competition."

The Golden Bears will welcome CCC foe Salve Regina in their home opener at Golden Bear Stadium on Saturday, March 9, when the program starts to seek its sixth CCC championship in the 12-year Klepacki coaching era.

The 15-game regular season docket concludes on April 24, versus Endicott in a CCC night game at Golden Bear Stadium. Besides Salve Regina, Springfield and Endicott, other home dates include conference opponents Roger Williams on April 10, and University of New England three days later.
