CHICOPEE -- The Castle of Knights will be rocking on the evening of March 14 as the New England Doowop Society presents its spring rock 'n' roll revival featuring Joel Katz and the Dynamics.
"We have put together another superb show at the Castle of Knights with an exciting night of entertainment," Bob Belniak of the New England Doowop Society said.
Belniak and Gary Jones, co-founders of the New England Doowop Society, are passionate about bringing talented local and national entertainers who perform music from the 1950's and 1960's to Western Massachusetts.
"What we enjoy most about the shows is the look on people's faces when we bring in an artist or group that they have never heard before," Belniak said. He added that it is rewarding to hear comments including, "Please don't stop bringing these shows in to the Castle of Knights."
Belniak said he was surprised when two women were crying at the last show because the music "had brought back so many memories."
Belniak noted that Springfield's own In Time will open the show, followed by the Third Edition, an a cappella group from Long Island. Joel Katz and the Dynamics are the main act for the evening, and will feature Warren Tesoro, Pat Profito and Bernard Jones, with lead singer and veteran showman Joel Katz.
"In Time is special to us because one of the members, Carl 'Dubby' Williams, and I went to Tech High School together," he said. "They're also special because they were the very first act we ever had back in 2004 at the Holiday Inn in Holyoke."
Belniak said that Third Edition is a group both he and Jones have been trying to line up for one of their shows for the past two years.
"Because of their busy schedules, we hadn't been able to connect on a date," Belniak said. "We saw them again last year in New Jersey and we signed the deal for March 14."
Katz is known to about 30 to 40 percent of the concertgoers in Western Massachusetts, according to Belniak, adding Katz has been singing for 35 to 40 years with groups including the Autumns, the Wizards and the the Cliftonairs.
