|SPRINGFIELD "Oh! Look here's one of the little Indians off the mantelpiece broken!" That's how the curtain falls on Act One of "And Then There Were None" (commonly known as "Ten Little Indians").|
The Cathedral High School Drama Club will present the Agatha Christie Murder Mystery "And Then There Were None" on the weekend of Nov. 20 through 22 in the Cathedral High School Auditorium. Show times are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Heather LeCuyer, a member of the CHS faculty, will make her directorial debut with this show, which features a tale of murder at an island retreat. Statuettes of 10 soldier boys sit on the mantelpiece when eight visitors who had never met one another arrive to find the host and hostess seemingly absent. A "nursery rhyme" recounts how each of the guests meets death. A mysterious voice accuses them of having "gotten away with murder." And then one of them drops dead poisoned! One down, nine to go!
The Cathedral show is produced and co-directed by John Anziano, who has directed and produced more than 15 shows at Cathedral over the past eight years. Anziano is a member of the Religious Studies and Fine Arts Departments and is the golf coach at Cathedral. "One of the joys of working with this novice cast has been to see how quickly they have picked up good acting habits that will make them a great team. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product," commented Anziano.
The cast of 11 actors includes Thomas Campbell, Caroline Heafey (both seniors) and Alexa Devillier (a freshman) in the lead roles. The actors are supported by another 20 students who have jobs as set managers, set designers, prop mistress, lighting and sound technicians and other roles needed to produce a play.
Tickets are available at the door for $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.
The Cathedral Drama program builds on a long tradition of Minstrel Shows and dramatic productions that recently have included productions of "The Sound of Music," "The Wizard of Oz," "Peter Pan," "Steel Magnolias" and many other popular productions.
