Short Sisters coming to uNi Coffeehouse

Short Sisters coming to uNi Coffeehouse
SPRINGFIELD On Nov. 8 at 8 p.m., the uNi Coffeehouse Concert Series presents the delightful harmony trio the Short Sisters. The concert will take place at the Unitarian Universalist Society Meetinghouse, 245 Porter Lake Dr. Tickets are $15 at the door.
The Short Sisters is the name chosen by the acclaimed harmony trio of Kate Seeger, Kim Wallach and Fay Baird. Though neither short nor sisters, they do have short first names and do often sound like famous "sisters" harmony trios. Like those trios, they do amazing unaccompanied arrangements but add plenty of acoustic guitar, autoharp and banjo accompaniments to many songs for a diverse mix of music.
Their diverse repertoire includes songs from funny to moving, thought-provoking to frivolous, from American, African-American and British traditions plus contemporary songwriters, and intricate rounds, musical curiosities, chorus songs, Sacred Harp, ballads and much more.
For over 25 years the Short Sisters have pleased audiences from New England to Florida and California and on their five recordings.
Their playfulness and pleasure in each other's company leave listeners energized and cheered. As they blend their voices in stunning and original harmonies on songs that convey optimism about tackling life's challenges.
uNi Coffeehouse Concerts feature lovely wooded location bordering on Longmeadow and the Forest Park woodlands, easy access from anywhere via I-91, a parking lot plus space along road for later arrivals, acoustic music (not electric, not excessively loud), some very old songs and tunes, some very new, experienced performers from across the United States, Canada and Great Britain, a coffeehouse style atmosphere: relaxed, informal, low stage, candlelight, but no alcohol and no smoking, a lively concert hall sound in an intimate setting performers often mingle with audience during breaks and refreshments are available, like home baked goodies, hot spiced cider, coffee, teas and popcorn.
