Springfield JCC hosting auditions for 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee'

SPRINGFIELD - Auditions will be hosted for the musical "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" on Nov. 1 from 3 to 5 p.m. and Nov. 2 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Springfield JCC, 1160 Dickinson St. Interested performers may contact Amy Kimball, Teen and Theatre Director, at akimball@springfieldjcc.org or at 739-4715 ext. 322. Auditions are open to those in grades eight through 12. "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" is a hilarious tale of overachievers' angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. The show's Tony Award winning creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time. Six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser. The production will be Jan. 16 and 17. This show is for a strong small cast. The Springfield JCC is excited to be the first in the local area to perform this musical.
