Springfield Museums to host free admission day
SPRINGFIELD Admission to the Springfield Museums will be free for everyone on Sept. 4. The free admission will also include the special exhibition "Grossology: The Impolite Science of the Human Body," which will close on Sept. 6.
The event is part of the "Free Fun Friday" program sponsored by the Highland Street Foundation, a family foundation located in Framingham. To recognize their 20th anniversary, the foundation invited Massachusetts residents and tourists to visit a designated museum or attraction for free on 10 Fridays this summer.
"In this difficult economy, the Free Fun Friday program makes it possible for everyone to enjoy some of the finest museums and cultural attractions in the state," Joseph Carvalho, president of the Springfield Museums, said. "We're very happy to be included and honored to be the only organization in Western Massachusetts to receive the grant."
The Springfield Museums and Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden are located on the Quadrangle at 21 Edwards St. Free parking is available in the Edwards Street parking lots. Hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Science Museum open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
