WESTFIELD – Despite the deep snow that now blankets the region, soon dogs of all ages and sizes will be romping off-leash at Arm Brook Park thanks to the efforts of many dedicated volunteers.
Maintaining a safe, social, passive recreational park takes funds and to ensure funding for ongoing maintenance, a Pasta for the Park fundraiser is slated Feb. 28 at the Sons of Erin, 22 William St. The dinner begins at 6 p.m. and Fran Liptak and Deuce and a Quarter will donate their time to provide the entertainment. A cash bar will be available.
“We’re looking to have the citizens of Westfield come down and show their continued support for the dog friendly area that was constructed at Arm Brook Park,” Lindsay Carr, secretary of Westfield Dog Bark Friends, said during an interview with Reminder Publications. “It took the past couple of years to get things in motion and we’ll need funding for the next phases.”
Carr noted that area residents are welcome to bring a side dish or dessert that complements the pasta buffet, which includes salad, pasta and meatballs, rolls and dessert. Monetary donations, Big Y gold coins and/or raffle prizes are also welcome.
“The group has continued support at our fundraising events, and Westfield Dog Bark Friends could not be thankful enough,” Carr said, adding that more than 150 people attended the past Pasta for the Park dinner and the group hopes to exceed that goal this month.
“I’m positive the community will outdo themselves again and exceed any expectations,” she said.
Tickets will also be available for a 50/50 Raffle and a general raffle with prizes ranging from a local dog walker gift certificate, dog baskets, and candle baskets, to gift certificates from local groomers and restaurants. Tickets will be $1 each or an arms-length for $10. The 50/50 Raffle tickets will be $1 each. Winners will be drawn at 8 p.m.
The 501(c)3 group is seeking supporters to attend meetings on the first Tuesday of the month and become active for the spring makeover, as well as to participate in elections.
“Dog friendly areas that allow off-leash playtime are becoming a big thing,” Carr said. “The surrounding communities are planning and fundraising also. I’ve been happy to help the citizens of Westfield, both human and K-9, move forward with a local spot!”
The group’s ultimate goal is Arm Brook Park will also serve as a place to host community K-9 programs, public service presentations, and adoption events.
For more information or to make a donation to the dinner, email Carr at WestfieldDogBark@gmail.com, or visit Westfield Dog Bark Friends on Facebook.
Tickets are $10 per person and are available online at WestfieldDogBark.com.
“Tickets are available online through the website via a PayPal account,” Carr said. “We do have a capacity count, but some tickets will still be available at the door.”
