|SOMERS, CONN. The Grammar School at Somersville has a long tradition of providing a positive, nurturing and challenging environment for young learners. This fall, the independent elementary school welcomed its third Head of School since its inception in 1981. Susan J. Superson of Stamford, Conn., assumed the position of Head of School beginning July 1. |
Superson is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and has a Master's in Education with Distinction from American International College. She has taught various grade levels in the Springfield Diocese as well as at the Curtis Blake Day School in Springfield, the White Oak School in Westfield and in the East Longmeadow Public Schools. She is currently an Academic Program Supervisor with the Summer Institute for the Gifted in Stamford, Conn., where she designed over 50 new courses for the nationally-renowned program for gifted students. It is here that she has proven her administration and leadership abilities directing academic deans and site directors while ensuring the implementation of the academic program.
Her professional background spans the educational spectrum between special needs and gifted students with over 30 years teaching experience. Superson is a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society and a nationally ranked player for the National Scrabble Association.
"The breadth and depth of her teaching experience, her proven administrative and leadership skills, and most of all her passion for educating young children make Susan a perfect fit for The Grammar School," Penny Soder, president of Board of Directors for The Grammar School, said.
