American Heart Association and Yankee Candle Village team up for 5K run

SOUTH DEERFIELD The American Heart Association (AHA) and Yankee Candle Village have teamed up for the Yankee Candle Second Annual 5K Run to benefit Go Red For Women on Aug. 15. The fundraising event will take place at the Yankee Candle Village and will feature a walk and a run through the picturesque roads of South Deerfield.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and Santa Claus himself will kick off the race at 9 a.m. Immediately following the race an awards ceremony will include top male and female runners, each winning 22-ounce scents of the month candles for a year. Winners of the male and female by age groups will receive trophies and certificates.
After the race, everyone on-site can enjoy family activities from 10 a.m. to noon, including Alotta Hoopla Hoop and the acrobatic performances of Nimble Arts. There will also be a farmers' market provided by Dave's Natural Garden of Granby from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. or simply discover the unbelievable mix of shopping, entertainment and dining at Yankee Candle Village.
There will be a $15 advance registration fee or a $20 registration the day of the race. All fees will be donated to the AHA's Go Red For Women to fight heart disease and stroke. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Interested participants can register online at www.yankeecandle.com/flagship.
Heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases kill more women each year than the next five causes of death combined, including breast cancer. Go Red For Women raises awareness of heart disease and empowers women to reduce their risk by learning the steps to prevent it. Anyone can register for the Go Red movement by going to www.goredforwomen.org.
