|GREATER SPRINGFIELD Rockridge Retirement Community will host Ann Frantti, author of "Grandma's Cobwebs," a book for children on the mysteries and effects of Alzheimer's Disease. Frantti will speak at 3:30 p.m. April 20 at Rockridge in Northampton. |
Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
After 22 years as an elementary school principal in upstate New York, Frantti retired two years ago. She has always worked with elementary-age children as a classroom teacher, reading teacher, curriculum director and principal. She has a master's degree in reading, and a master's and doctorate in educational administration from Syracuse University.
Frantti's mother lived with her for four years, during which time she was her mother's caregiver. Her mother died from Alzheimer's in 1994. Frantti volunteers with the Alzheimer's Association and has been honored with the Advocate of the Year Award and Volunteer of the Year Award from the Northeastern New York Chapter.
Frantti continues to work with children, making school pre-sentations to teach them about Alzheimer's and how to make and maintain special relationships with someone who has Alzheimer's disease. She also works with adults in making presentations to them about how to talk with children about Alzheimer's.
She has presented at the National Conference in Chicago and at various state conferences, and was invited by former New York Sen. Hillary Clinton to speak at a Bipartisan Congressional Committee on Alzheimer's in Washington, D.C.
