Diabetes fitness classes at Attain

June 20, 2013 |

EAST LONGMEADOW – Attain Therapy + Fitness is offering medically guided, safe and effective Diabetes Fitness classes, coined "DM Fit," in their East Longmeadow facility. Led by clinical exercise physiologists, Jessica Foster, BS HFS and Neil Bridgman, CSCS, the class is specifically designed for adults with Diabetes seeking to lower blood glucose levels and ultimately lower one's hemoglobin A1C level. "As clinical exercise physiologists we are trained to monitor chronic disease patients during exercise." Foster said. "We monitor blood pressure, blood glucose, oxygen saturation, and heart rate before, during and after the exercise sessions. We then integrate the information and send progress reports to each patient's referring physician," she added. "We communicate directly with physicians and/or their staff in the case of any abnormal response during an exercise session, i.e. very high or low blood pressure or chest pain." Exercise is a very important element in controlling diabetes. The CDC reports that from 1980 through 2011, the number of U.S. adults aged 18 years or older with diagnosed diabetes has more than tripled (from 5.5 million to 19.6 million). With highly educated staff and constant one on one monitoring, Attain Therapy + Fitness is one of the safest places to start a Diabetes Fitness program. DM Fit is currently offered Monday through Friday at 10:30 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday at 4 p.m. at 168 Denslow Road. More classes are expected to be added. Questions about insurance or the DM Fit program can be addressed to Foster or Neil Bridgman, BS CSCS by calling 526-9924.
