CHICOPEE – Doug Foresta, a licensed social worker, therapist and coach with Change Happens Inc., will host a free informational session about strengthening partnerships on July 14 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Change Happens Inc., 661 Front St.
The session will give participants an overview of the work that Foresta does with couples and will serve as an introduction to a workshop, "The 7 Principles for Making Relationships Work," that Foresta will hold on July 28 from 1 to 3:30 p.m., also at Change Happens.
Foresta said his work is based on principles developed by Dr. John Gottman, the author of "The 7 Principles for Making Marriage Work," who has studied couples for the past 40 years to discover what works in strengthening relationships.
"In addition to sharing about Dr. Gottman's work, I'll also be sharing my own secrets and tips that I've learned from moderating relationship forums with people from all over the world," Foresta said. "I've worked with people from China, Iran, Brazil, Israel and many other countries, and I've found that the issues people have in relationships are pretty universal."
Workshop participants will learn: tools for improving friendship, fondness and admiration; things never to do in a relationship and what to do instead; ways to manage conflict; types of problems every couple experiences and how to handle them; secrets for creating compromise and finding common ground.
Foresta stressed that his workshop is interactive, but couples share their thoughts only with one another.
Foresta is a licensed therapist who has been in practice for seven years.
As the lead therapist for www.talktala.com, a partner of the Huffington Post's GPS for the Soul application, he has helped hundreds of people from all over the world to develop more satisfying relationships.

"This work also helps inform my unique perspective on relationships," he said.
The cost for "The 7 Principles for Making Relationships Work," to be held July 28, is $130 per couple. There is a maximum of five couples. Each participant will receive a workbook and a copy of Gottman's book.
