LONGMEADOW – Glenmeadow Retirement will host a talk on a meditation practice called Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) on Jan. 14 from 10 a.m. to noon at Western New England University.

The presentation, “Discovering Mindfulness: The Art and Science of the Present Moment,” will be offered by Leslie Smith Frank, an MBSR practitioner.
Frank will explore the science behind MBSR, which is proven to have a calming effect on people in the midst of life’s distractions and busy pace. She will also teach simple yet powerful meditations and discuss how the brain rewires itself as attention is focused on the breath through meditative practice. Decreased loneliness, increased patience and a heightened sense of well-being are among the reported benefits of MBSR.
Frank began practicing mindfulness meditation in 1993. She was trained to teach MBSR at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester in 2000 and has continued to study and deepen her practice through courses, retreats and teaching.
She is an adjunct professor at Bay Path College and a board-certified physician assistant.
The program will take place in The Bear’s Den in St. Germain Campus Center at 1215 Wilbraham Road, Springfield. The snow date is Jan. 21, also from 10 a.m. to noon.
