Aug. 27, 2012
SPRINGFIELD — Jewish Family Service recently welcomed Donna Gordon, MSW, as clinical director.

In her new role, Gordon will oversee the counseling department which includes: Social work, counseling for individuals, families and couples, support groups, older adult outreach, geriatric care management, and the Community Support Program (CSP).

Since Gordon's arrival this spring, she has been actively involved with volunteer training, staff development and community outreach. Gordon introduces herself and her objectives for enhancing JFS's innovative services and programs.

"My commitment to social work, to strengthening the lives of individuals and families, coupled with my love for Jewish life, make this position a perfect fit!" Gordon said.

"I am beginning to evaluate the social service needs of the community and am looking at ways that JFS can support your needs. My goal as the Clinical Director of Jewish Family Service is to address the social service needs of those living in Western Mass, thereby strengthening individuals and families. Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any immediate needs or questions as to how JFS can be helpful to you. I can be reached at 737-2601 ext. 106 or d.gordon@jfswm.org," she continued.

One pressing need already addressed by Gordon is Geriatric Care Management. Geriatric care management provides you with the guidance and resources you need to care for the older adult in your life. Geriatric Care Managers are trained to assist older adults in attaining their maximum functional potential.

The process begins with an assessment which includes an older adult's physical safety, nutrition, cognition, social wellness, medical history, legal and financial situation. With a thorough assessment, JFS staff is able to address your loved one's immediate needs. The level of ongoing care management services is adjusted as needed over time, making certain that the elder's best interests, safety and happiness come first. There is a small fee charged for geriatric care assessments and care management services.

Communication is provided monthly or more frequently, depending on your needs.

Jewish Family Service assists individuals and families with planned and unplanned challenges and transitions with responsive social services and innovative programs. For more information about JFS, please visit our website, www.jfswm.org .
